Our Hospital

Medical Trust Hospital and Diabetes Care Centre was founded in 1986 by late Sri. P. Gadhadaran Nampoothiri. In 2005 it became the first ISO Certified Hospital in Central KERALA.

Apart from providing medical care, the hospital also conducts workshops, conferences, seminars, and continuing medical education programmes for Doctors and Paramedical staff.Awareness and training programmes for students, teachers and health workers are organized by the hospital regularly. Through awareness classes and exhibitions for patients and general public, the hospital has made its impact in the field of public health in the surrounding rural areas.

Our Chairman

A leading Diabetologist from Pathanamthitta in Kerala, Dr. G Vijayakumar is Chairman & Managing Director of Medical Trust Hospital and Diabetes Care Centre. He was also associated with NSS Medical Mission Hospital and Cooperative Hospital.

Dr. G Vijayakumar has completed his MBBS and MD in General Medicine from Government College in Kottayam. He also possesses Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Dr. Vijayakumar’s G Dip DC was accomplished from New Castle University, Australia.

Dr. G Vijayakumar has held some important positions during his more than 35 years of distinguished career such as:

President, Association of Physicians of India – Kerala Chapter (2010 and 2011)
Director, kNOw Diabetes project (2008-2013) implemented in the districts of Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha Districts in Kerala State in association with the World Diabetes Foundation
Managing Trustee,P Gadadharan Nampoothiri Memorial charitable Trust
Regional Coordinator, National Diabetes Educator Program organized by International Diabetes Federation in association with Dr.Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy

He was also involved in World Diabetes Foundation supported project ‘Primary Prevention of Diabetes and Other Lifestyle Diseases through Targeted Approach’ as a Project Director.

P.Gadadharan Nampoothiri Memorial Charitable Trust

The trust founded in memory of late P.Gadadharan Nampoothiri,founder of Medical Trust Hospital,Kulanada is a socially committed charitable trust which began functioning in March,and 2003.Major objectives of the trust are the following;

Promoting research activities in the field of Modern Medicine
Providing scholarships for outstanding students from economically backwards classes.
Starting specialty clinics for the treatment of lifestyle diseases like diabetes,asthma and hypertension.
Starting educational and research institutions in the field of modern medicine.
Providing financial assistance for poor patients.

Diabetes Care Centre

The Diabetes Care Centre started functioning in 1998.The centre regularly conducts continuing Medical Education Programmes and workshops on various topics related to diabetes, like diabetic foot, diet in diabetes management etc…

Every year, in connection with the World Diabetes Day, the centre organises Exhibitions, Seminars and Medical Camps to promote awareness on diabetes. The survey done by the centre on the burden of diabetes and its determinants in a rural village in Central Kerala, code named “SLICK2007” was a milestone in diabetes research in Kerala. The study is accepted for publication in JAPI, an internationally acclaimed journal. Two major studies related to Diabetes are going on now. The Diabetes Care Centre has also presented many papers related to Diabetes Mellitus at state level and national level conferences and seminars.
