Day 9 - Chengannur to Mavelikkara

Walk from Chengannur to Mavelikkara was inaugurated by the chairperson,Chengannur Municipality Smt.Suja John.Circle inspector of police,Sri.R Jose flagged off the walk and Smt Omanakutty amma delivered the keynote address.Smt.T J Annamma Headmistress of the school presided over the function and Dr Haribabu and Sri Biju spoke.The walk got rousing welcome at various places along the route.hundreds of students and others joined the walk at different places. Moving along with the Walk is a thrilling experience.In all the centres the inaugural ceremony and the flag off are attended by the MLA/Chairman/Chairperson of the Municipality/Gramapanchayath, Health and Education authorities,police officers, doctors,academicians and leaders from political,social realms. Hundreds of students and others follow the walk for one or two hours and then the walk team is joined by another group of students and healthworkers who will also accompany the team. This process goes on until they reach the destination.When the team enters a new panchayath they are given a rousing welcome by the local panchayath/ local schools and colleges.Print and the visual Media also follow the walk and the related events with interest and through them the walk and the walkmessages get good publicity.The walk team while moving forward distributes pamphlets about how to prevent diabetes and other lifestyle diseases.

The pathanamthitta-Alappuzha Diabetes walk organized by kNOw Diabetes project was launched on 3rd November 2011 by Sri. Oomman Chandi, Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala by handing over the logo ‘Blue Circle’ to the first batch of National service Scheme volunteers who lead the walk.The function held at Chief Minister’s chamber was attended by Sri.Anto Antony MP,Sri Vishnunath,MLA,Sri.Babu George (President, Pathanamthitta District panchayath)Sri.E G Raju(State coordinator, National Service Scheme) and Dr.G Vijayakumar, Project Director, kNOw Diabetes.
