Day 14 - Alappuzha

Batches of 14 students led the walk all the way from Adoor to Alappuzha connecting 14 centres and walking about 196 kilometers telling people to 'walk at least 30 minutes a day and prevent diabetes and other lifestyle diseases'.While the walk team walked through about 30 grama panchayaths and Municipalities they were greeted by all the Panchayath council authorities and they participated in the walk .All students and teachers from the schools on the wayside came out to welcome the walk and they also joined the walk in their areas.
The walk formally concluded today with a massive Global diabetes walk in the town of Alappuzha led by the Chairperson of Alappuzha Municipal council,Smt Mercy teacher,councillor Sri.Althaff ,young and dynamic film actor Sri Ishanth Sagar.As the Blue Circle which led the walk reached the destination which was about 3 kilometres away the back end of the walk had just started to walk.Students from all the schools in the town,selected NSS volunteers from all the schools in the Alappuzha and pathanamthitta district ,NCC cadets,teachers Accredited social health activists (ASHA) and hundreds of other people joined the walk.
As thousands of people thronged the streets of the town one media person commented, "a piece of the blue sky has come down to the roads of Alappuzha."

The pathanamthitta-Alappuzha Diabetes walk organized by kNOw Diabetes project was launched on 3rd November 2011 by Sri. Oomman Chandi, Hon. Chief Minister of Kerala by handing over the logo ‘Blue Circle’ to the first batch of National service Scheme volunteers who lead the walk.The function held at Chief Minister’s chamber was attended by Sri.Anto Antony MP,Sri Vishnunath,MLA,Sri.Babu George (President, Pathanamthitta District panchayath)Sri.E G Raju(State coordinator, National Service Scheme) and Dr.G Vijayakumar, Project Director, kNOw Diabetes.
