Can Diabetes cause Blurry Vision ?

Once a person is diagnosed with diabetes, eye examination is very important. Type 1 diabetes patients should do it five years and type 2 diabetes patients should do it once in every year after diagnosing it. Along with the problems in the Retina, other problems that may happen to eyes can also be identified by these yearly tests.
While testing the eyes, first you should get them checked by an Ophthalmologist or a Diabetes Specialist, dilate them by putting medicines and find out if any changes have occurred to the retina. Retina is the only part of the body through which we can see the blood vessels. Diabetes mainly affects the blood vessels. If the sugar level in blood remains uncontrolled, that may cause some changes in the walls of the blood vessels. As a result ,fat is deposited on the walls and due to this the diameter inside the blood vessels will be reduced. Because of this, the blood flow to various organs decreases. All the complications related to diabetes are caused by this reduced blood flow to the organs.
Diabetes can affect any part of the eyes. Retinopathy is one of the most important issue. A serious eye disease that is caused by diabetes is Blurred vision and it happens when diabetes affects the retina. Most of the time, the patient may not notice small vision problems. They may visit the doctor only after noticing serious vision loss. It cannot be cured completely, If the eyesight is seriously damaged by the time . But if you have started treatment before the eyesight loss, you can protect the eyesight. That is the importance of the annual eye test. Cataract is an eye disease which comes in elderly people. But diabetic people may get cataract ten years earlier.
Like that, diabetes patients have more chances of getting infections on the outer parts of the eyes, like eyelashes, cornea etc. So, the possibility of glaucoma (a disease caused by the increased pressure in the eyes ) in diabetes patients is more than that of normal people. Normal people too can have glaucoma, but diabetes patients have more chances of getting it. All the eye diseases are found in the diabetes patients more than normal people. In such situations, they should strictly control their diabetes and treat it on time. Or else it will lead to more complications. So, if you are a type 2 diabetes patient, you should definitely do the tests for the eyes at least once in a year.
