Have a question about diabetes, Ask the Expert

My brothers blood sugar is 210 while fasting.what are the steps to be taken?is it very dangerous?he has central obesity and always like something to eat

Assuming that your brother is checking his blood sugar for the first time,Fasting blood sugar of 210 makes him a diabetic.Diabetes is not a dangerous disease. It can be controlled with diet modification, regular exercise, mental stress management and drugs,if necessary. If your brother does not have much symptoms,he can begin the treatment with diet modification and regular exercise for a period of two weeks and recheck the blood sugar. For proper advice on diet modification he has to consult a physician/dietition.Regular exercise will help to reduce the central obeisity also.If the blood sugar is not controlled even after proper diet modification,he will have to take drugs for the controll of diabetes. He will have to do other basic investigations like PPBS, HBa1C, S.Cholesterol, S.Creatinine and an eye check up.
